Adxto Mobile Support offers a unique concept where the patient uses an ordinary mobile phone, with especially developed software that provides an “aide memoire”, for reminding the patient to take the prescribed medicine. The software is installed through electronic distribution (via Internet) directly in to the mobile phone.
The advantage of using an ordinary mobile phone, as a reminder for taking medicine, is that the patient brings the mobile phone through all the activities of the day, with very few exceptions. Thus, the mobile phone is an optimal reminder since it is both mobile and, more or less, a necessity in today’s society. Relatives and medical staff can also easily get involved by using the interactive feedback function via SMS.
The product is based on modern information technology (internet and mobile phones) and produces a service that is user friendly and accessible to almost anybody with a mobile phone. The advantages for all the parties involved are clear. The patient’s quality of life improves due to a larger degree of independence. Relatives and medical staff can in a smoother and more efficient way get involved in the process of supporting the patient’s use of medication.
How it works
When it is time for the patient to take the prescribed medicine a signal beeps and a picture of the medicine occurs on the mobile phone’s display. The patient pushes a button on the mobile phone and confirms that the information has gone through. If feedback function is activated: relatives and medical staff receives a SMS that notifies them if the patient has taken the prescribed medicine or not (adjustable).
Technical solution
The product is a service solution for integration between patient and supervisor (the supervisor may very well be the patient herself/himself). Technically, it consists of a SMS-server that communicates with mobile phones, with especially developed software installed. The information and instructions sent to the mobile phone via the server is setup on a web-based database that the supervisor reaches trough a login function. The system works independently of which mobile phone operator the user is connected to.
An example…
John is a very active person and has a problem remembering when to take his prescribed medicine. Often, things come up that makes him forget to take his medicine as he should. Sometimes he also forgets that he already has taken his medicine and therefore takes a double dose of his prescribed medicine.
John then acquires the product while renewing his prescription and the following occurs: After inserting the prescribed medicine and when to take it on a web based calendar, John gets a message on his mobile phone when it is time to take his medicine. He then confirms by pushing a button on his mobile phone and takes his medicine. By confirming, no message is sent to his mother. If he would not have confirmed within 10 minutes, his mother would get an alert message on her mobile phone telling her to contact John and reminding him to take his medicine. Using the product John’s mother does not have to worry and check with John if he has taken his medicine three times a day, something that both John and his mother appreciates.
